Police search for armed robbery suspect near Naval Medical Center

SAN DIEGO -- Naval Medical Center San Diego was temporarily sheltered in place as San Diego police and Navy Security looked for an armed robbery suspect that was thought to have been on the property.

The shelter-in-place was lifted and gates were re-opened by 5:20 p.m.

Police are actively looking for the suspect, 22-year-old Russell Merck, who has an outstanding felony arrest warrant.

An officer fell and was injured during a foot pursuit of Merck, who is known to run from police. The extent of the officer's injuries are not known.
