SANTEE, Calif. — A probationer with a suspended license allegedly led law enforcement officers on a pursuit from Santee to San Diego early Thursday.

Deputies attempted to stop a silver BMW driven by Jeffery Shearer, 39, in the vicinity of state Route 67 and Magnolia Avenue shortly before 2:30 a.m., but he took off, sheriff’s Lt. Robert Smith said.

Smith said Shearer then headed through Santee and into San Diego on state Route 52 before heading south on state Route 163.

He eventually ended up on southbound Interstate 805 and attempted to ditch the car and run off near Home Avenue, Smith said.

But a sheriff’s helicopter was overhead and Shearer was quickly arrested on suspicion of felony evading, driving on a suspended license and violating the terms of his probation, according to the lieutenant.
