EL CAJON, Calif. — A man who beat his 23-year-old cousin to death with a piece of wood at the defendant’s home on the Campo Indian Reservation was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in state prison.

Patrick Joseph Pablo, 49, pleaded guilty last month to voluntary manslaughter in the June 13, 2014, death of Teddy Pablo. The victim was found dying by paramedics and deputies at a home in the 36600 block of Highway 94 around 6:40 p.m.

According to a probation report, the defendant, victim and the defendant’s twin were all at the home drinking the day of the killing.

At some point, the defendant and the victim got into an argument and the defendant hit the victim twice in the face with a piece of wood, fatally injuring him, said Deputy District Attorney Daniel Shim.
