Driver escapes on foot after high-speed chase

SPRING VALLEY, Calif. – A man driving who led deputies on a high-speed freeway chase in a stolen car escaped on foot after crashing the vehicle early Tuesday.

Deputies spotted a stolen  white Toyota Camry driving south on Sweetwater Road in Spring Valley around 3 a.m. The man driving the car sped off when he spotted the Sheriff’s patrol car, leading deputies on a chase through Bonita and Chula Vista. The chase ended after about 10 minutes when the car crashed on the transition ramp from northbound Interstate 805 to state Route 94 in Chollas View.

The driver hopped out of the car and ran away with a female passenger. Deputies later arrested 19-year-old Roxana Cornarrubias, but the driver got away, they said.

The transition ramp was closed for 45 minutes during the search for the driver. It reopened at 4:15 a.m.

Deputies were still searching for the driver of the car. A description of the suspect was unavailable. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Diego Sheriff’s Department 858-565-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
