Brush fire chars 3 acres along SR-67

SAN DIEGO – Firefighters quickly halted the spread of a brush fire burning along state Route 67 Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out for unknown reasons on a hill off state Route 67 near Slaughterhouse Canyon Road shortly after 9 a.m. and quickly blackened about three acres, according to Cal Fire and the California Highway Patrol.

Fire officials closed one northbound highway lane at Vigilante Road, according to the CHP and Caltrans.

Cal Fire Captain Kendal Bortisser said the coordinated effort between the crews from Lakeside Fire Department, Cal FireĀ and pilots in helicoptersĀ helped in the effort.

No structures were threatened.
