SAN DIEGO – A man reported being the victim of an armed carjacking in East Village early Sunday morning, police said.

The carjacker stole the victim’s 2008 Hyundai Elantra and phone in the parking lot of 800 10th Avenue at 1:51 a.m., according to San Diego police.

The owner had his engine on and was outside by the car’s trunk when the armed man confronted him, investigators said. The victim escaped and told someone to call police.

Officers later found the abandoned car at 700 13th Street, but the victim’s phone was not recovered.

The suspect was described as a 6-feet-tall black man with a medium build, wore a dark blue hooded sweatshirt and weighed about 250 pounds, police said.
