SAN DIEGO — Emergency crews came to the rescue of an 18-year-old man who fell partway down an ocean-front bluff at Black’s Beach Tuesday, suffering apparently non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident on Box Canyon Trail in the Torrey Pines area was reported about 3:30 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Lifeguards strapped the ailing hiker onto a litter, and personnel aboard a hovering emergency-services helicopter hoisted him aboard for a trip to nearby Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said. The entire process took about a half-hour.

The extent of the victim’s injuries was unclear, though he was conscious and communicative as emergency crews tended to him, Swanson said.
