JAMUL, Calif. -- A skydiver was killed Friday in a hard landing near Lower Otay Lake, authorities reported.

The parachuting fatality at Skydive San Diego off the 13500 block of Otay Lakes Road in Jamul was reported shortly after 2 p.m., according to Cal Fire.

Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene, said Kendal Bortisser, a spokesman for the state agency. The man's name was withheld pending family notification.

According to the owner of Skydive San Diego, the man was in his young 30sĀ and was a "very experienced" skydiver. He was jumping with a new canopy that caused him problems and fell 100 to 150 feet to his death.

Was there today. Lots of skydivers. Good to see that the incident didn’t deter anyone.
