SAN DIEGO - A man was recovering after being shot in the chest during a road rage incident in Bay Park Monday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The road rage incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on the NB Interstate-5 near Clairemont Dive. A driver of a small white sedan pulled alongside another driver and fired through the passenger window, hitting the man in the chest. The shooter then sped away and remains on the loose.

The victim immediately pulled to the side of the freeway and called 911. Paramedics and CHP arrived a few minutes later and the driver was taken to the hospital, where he was expected to survive, according to CHP.

It was unclear what sparked the incident and no good description of the gunman was available. A female passenger was believed to be in the vehicle with the shooter, CHP said.
