SAN DIEGO — Twelve families have had their homes looted as they attended funerals for loved ones, and a ring of three suspects has been arrested, El Cajon police said Saturday.

The 12 bereaved families lost more than $100,000 in goods, officers said.

Two men and a woman were arrested, suspected of selecting targets by reading obituaries and finding houses they knew would be unoccupied.

El Cajon detectives arrested Herbert John Cruz, David Andrew Valenzuela, and Jennifer Lynn Alarcon last week for suspicion of burglary. The most-recent arrest was Wednesday, the department said as it announced the crime spree.

A task force of El Cajon and San Diego police, and San Diego County sheriff’s deputies searched residences and storage lockers connected to the suspects. Police said they found many items that were reported stolen.

Cruz remained jailed Saturday on a $550,000 bail, and Valenzuela was still jailed pending a $450,000 bail. Alarcon was not listed in the county jail population list, so it was not clear if she had made bail, or what that amount is.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to these scumbags. I am disabled and use a wheelchair. In November 2014 I hired Jennifer Alarcon to be my caregiver for a few nights per week. She was already registered and approved through the state of California (just shows you how lousy their screening process is). I fired her two weeks later because she was a lousy employee. Three days after that, the day after Thanksgiving, I was attacked in my home by a masked intruder who had the code to my front door. He put a gun to my head and threw me out of my wheelchair onto the floor. When he went to start stealing items (funny how he knew exactly where they were located) my very brave caregiver escaped from him and ran to call the police from a neighbor’s house. He fled the scene with a getaway driver. But my nightmare didn’t end there. A couple of days later I started getting death threats and extortion demands from them by email. I had no choice but to flee my home and move out of California. I lost my whole life due to these scumbags.

In January Herbert Cruz was arrested and charged with attacking me. Jennifer has not yet been charged in my case, even though she was obviously behind it. But at least with these charges she will never be able to be a caregiver again. I have been documenting my nightmare on my blog if you would like to know more.

If anyone else out there has been a victim of these people, please contact me. Perhaps we can help each other put together additional cases so that they never get out of prison to hurt anyone else.

We were also victims of these people. They robbed our house during my Grandmother’s funeral.
