SAN DIEGO – A barber who pleaded guilty to attempted murder for slashing a customer’s throat with a straight razor was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison.

Daniel Roberto Flores, 22, was arrested in October.

His client, 33-year-old Navy sailor Timothy Vaughn, suffered severe bleeding from multiple cuts at an Imperial Beach barber shop.

Vaughn was taken to UCSD Medical Center. Flores left the barbershop without helping Vaughn and was arrested nearby on charges of attempted murder.

A motive was never revealed for the sudden attack.

Outside court, Vaughn said he didn’t appreciate some of the smirking and smiling by the defendant during the sentencing. He said he’s not happy Flores will be a free man someday.

"It's very unsettling knowing he's going to be back with society one day...there was no reason why this happened...he's gonna get out and it could happen again," Vaughn said.
