DEL MAR, Calif. -- The Del Mar beach has gotten a little more dry. The city council recently voted to shut off three of the beach's four showers.

"People have gotten really conditioned to standing underneath the showers when they can just clean off their boards in the ocean," said Del Mar Lifeguard Jon Edelbrock.

Beaches throughout the region are implementing water saving measures.

Encinitas replaced their beach shower heads to reduce water flow. Coronado lifeguards now wash their trucks every other day instead of every day.

But cutting of water altogether in parts of Del Mar's beach is one of the most aggressive ways to combat the drought. That's one of the reasons Edelbrock and a co-worker came up with a creative way for people to still stay clean.

They strung several brushes near the showers as a dry alternative to clean off.

"Thank God we found these. Otherwise we'd have a mess in our car," said grandmother Doni Hall.
