LONDON – Vince Vaughn believes that having guns in schools would deter mass shooters from killing children.

The actor explained his controversial stance on gun control in his British GQ cover story interview.

“In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these f***ing schools because they know there are no guns there. They are monsters killing six-year-olds,” Vaughn said.

He goes on to explain that he believes taking away guns won’t cure the world of violence.

“You think the politicians that run my country and your country don’t have guns in the schools their kids go to? They do. And we should be allowed the same rights,” Vaughn said. “Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat. Taking away guns, taking away drugs, the booze, it won’t rid the world of criminality.”

Schools aren’t the only place that Vaughn thinks people should be allowed to carry guns. He’s for everyone having the right to carry a fire arm in public.

“I support people having a gun in public full stop, not just in your home. We don’t have the right to bear arms because of burglars; we have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government. It’s not about duck hunting; it’s about the ability of the individual.”

The cover comes just ahead of Vaughn taking on a potentially career-redefining role in Season 2 of HBO’s “True Detective.” Turning away from his comedy roots, Vaughn plays a criminal turned businessman going toe to toe with Colin Farrell in the critically acclaimed series.

The people who orchestrate these mass murders are sick cowards. They can’t handle confrontation on an even playing field. They just want infamy, notoriety, or a power trip. And I think if these cowardly nut jobs know they have to go toe-to-toe with one or more honest gun-carrying person to live out their messed up fantasy, they may just be discouraged. And if they try to kill people anyways, we can’t afford cops everywhere. We are the first line of defense if we find ourselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. And in that time, if we don’t have the tools or training to make a difference, then we are just victims on our knees.
Crime doesn’t follow laws. Gun-free zones are invitations for unimpeded mass murder. And until you can take the sick, evil, and twisted out of some people, the rest of us should have the right to not be a victim.
