SAN DIEGO -- A man led police on a high-speed chase Thursday morning, even throwing his gun out the window before finally getting caught.

Police received a call at 9:20 a.m. from a woman saying she had just been shot at near Hilltop Drive and 49th Street. She told police the man, Jesus Gonzalez, 60, was her mother’s ex-boyfriend.

The woman’s family told FOX 5 Gonzalez had been stalking the victim’s mother for a week after the mother and he broke up.

When Gonzalez circled the neighborhood again Thursday morning, the daughter got in her car and chased after him.

“The victim was following the suspect, the suspect reached out with a gun and shot behind him,” said Lt. Kevin Mayer of San Diego Police Department.

No one was hurt but Gonzalez took off. Police tried to pull him over but he led them on a high speed chase first along Hwy 94 E. Moments later, police said they saw Gonzalez throw a gun out the window.  Less than 10 minutes later Gonzalez pulled over along Hwy 125 near Mission Gorge Road and gave up without incident.

He is being charged with felony evading and assault with a deadly weapon.
