SAN DIEGO – Two men were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after a tractor trailer side-swiped them on the Interstate 805, the CHP said.

The white Acura Integra was heading north on I-805 near Miramar Road around 5:30 a.m. when the big rig slammed into the side of car, forcing it onto the shoulder. The truck did not stop after the accident and continued heading north.

Rescuers used the Jaws of Life to cut both the driver and the passenger from the car. They were taken to the hospital with major injuries.

Traffic was backed up as rescue crews closed the far right lane following the crash.
