SAN DIEGO – Two people died after a wrong-way driver collided with two other vehicles on northbound state Route 163 early Saturday morning, authorities said.

The collisions occurred on SR-163 just south of Interstate 8 in Mission Valley at 1:35 a.m., California Highway Patrol reported.

The driver of a Ford F-350 was driving the wrong-way and crashed into a Prius with five people inside, a witness said. The 23-year-old driver of the Prius and a 24-year-old passenger died.

Three other people inside the Pruis were taken to the hospital, where two of them are listed in critical condition, authorities said.  The third victim suffered moderate injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital to be treated for unknown injuries, then later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said.

No identities were released.

The driver of the pickup should be charged with murder. He knew that driving under the influence could kill someone.

I am in great shock!!! I knew the driver who was driving the Prius. She was a beautiful, sweet,
off the chart student, who was planning to become a doctor. It is so unfortunate that she had to be involved in this deadly crash. The driver definitely should be put away for murdering two individuals for his wrong doing. All of us in an organization she was involved in are going to miss her deeply!
