SAN DIEGO – Police are searching for a burly man who made a failed attempt to abduct a woman and her grandson from a Walmart parking lot in Oak Park Wednesday.

San Diego police were at the Walmart at 3412 College Avenue at 11:17 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of an attempted kidnapping.

A woman and her 3-year-old grandson were loading groceries into their car in the parking lot when a man approached her from behind, investigators said. The man tried to cover the woman's mouth, but she fought back, scaring off her attacker, police said.

The burly man was last seen running under the state Route 94 bridge toward Lemon Grove.  Police described him as a muscular, roughly 5-foot-8-inch man who appeared to be in his late 30s, with a dark complexion and tattoos on his arms, neck and upper chest.

The woman, whose name was withheld, suffered minor scratches in the attack, Lt. Christian Sharp told reporters.

Officers fanned out through the area and searched in vain for several hours for the would-be abductor.

Good for her! I am so glad she was able to defend herself and grandson. Hopefully the scum bag will be apprehended. I come across numerous folks in my business that have had issues such as this. When they make contact with me it is usually to purchase some sort of self defense products after becoming a victim. The time to protect yourself is before. Planning ahead and being proactive in self defense is the best solution.
