TIJUANA, Mexico – Mexican police and army units discovered a drug tunnel under construction near the Tijuana airport, according to published reports.

Army units received information Tuesday from neighbors of suspicious activity in a building near the La Mision tortilla factory, according to the newspaper Zeta. When they went to investigate, they found nine workers building a tunnel that was headed toward the U.S. border in Otay Mesa. They also found drug packets stored at the site, Zeta reported.

The tunnel was still under construction and had not crossed the border.
