CARLSBAD, Calif. -- As part of the Friday Night Lights Flag Football League, a team that calls themselves the UCLA  Bruins go where no girls have gone before by forming one of the first all-girl teams in the over 50 team league and the only in their Pac-12 division.

"When I play against them, they’re really tough and our team has so much fun when we’re focused," said Bella Gutchez. "When our team is focused we can do anything!"

"The catching part and learning some of the terms, like a center or corner, are new  for them," said co-coach Wayne Gutchez. "It’s starting from scratch, but it’s good.”

The Bruins hope to inspire more girls to get out onto the field and give the boys a challenge for seasons to come.
