SAN DIEGO — A hiker fell and rolled down a Cowles Mountain trail Saturday, and was seriously injured.

A San Diego Fire-Rescue dispatcher said the accident was at 9:08 a.m. and involved a man in his 30s.

“He fell and rolled down an embankment 30 to 45 feet,” the dispatcher said. “He severely injured his arm.”

The injured hiker was going down the Climber’s Loop trail.

A helicopter was dispatched to take the victim to a hospital.

This trail is widely traveled and cell service is available at all points on the trail. So your device athough useful for remote hiking is overkill. There is some confusion in the article as the only climbers loop trail I know of is in Mission Trails proper north and across from the visitors center. Cowles mountain is over a mile to the south.
