ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Frying fat ignited at an Escondido fast-food restaurant Saturday.

The fire was reported about 11:20 a.m. at Carl’s Jr. at 555 W. Mission Rd., said acting Escondido battalion chief Dennis Boyer.

“We arrived on the scene to find smoke coming from the top of the building,” Boyer said. “There was a small fire in a deep-fat fryer that had extended up into the vents in the hood system going into the attic,” Boyer said.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire there in 10 to 15 minutes.

There were no injuries, Boyer said.

A total of four units initially responded to the blaze, including an engine company, a truck company, a paramedic unit and a battalion chief unit.

The investigation was continuing into the cause of the blaze.
