SAN DIEGO – Police shot and wounded a man Tuesday evening following a brief pursuit in National City.

The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. in the 400 block of Division Street.

A National City police officer attempted to stop a driver for vehicle code violations. The driver did not stop and led police on a short pursuit that ended near the intersection of Gladiola Drive and Division Street.

Police then conducted a “high-risk vehicle stop,” according to National City police. The driver was shot once in the left arm and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He will be taken into custody once he has been treated, police said.

Several hours after the shooting, investigators still weren't sure of why the police officer involved, who has not been identified, fired his weapon.

The officer's name was not initially released but Fox 5 did learned he has many years of experience with the force.

  • They're shooting everyone

Awesome!!! An unarmed man shot while running away? I am not siding with the criminal but the policeman made a bad call. and gets paid leave (cause he’s going to need time to develop a defense). So, lock up your family, pets, …. cause they’re shooting everyone.
