SAN DIEGO -- Dozens gathered at Oceanside Beach Friday night, some weary of the imminent rainfall, others eagerly waiting for it.

Rain is supposed to hit San Diego County late Friday night and last through the weekend. About half an inch to an inch is expected along the coast and around two inches is expected in the mountain areas, according to the National Weather Service. A wind advisory is scheduled for the mountains and deserts from 6 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Sunday.

Emjudy Santiago and dozens of others gathered at the beach to celebrate what would have been her son's birthday. Jareth San Nicolas died last year from metastic pancreatic cancer and Oceanside Beach was one of his favorite places.

"It's such a beautiful night, we were only going to be here until 7, and now it's 8, so we're thinking we'll be here until it starts to rain on us," said Santiago.

There was one person at the beach who couldn't wait for the rain to start pouring down though. Sokratis Kanetakis said he would stay out on the sand if the storm came Friday night.

"Just listen to the pouring rain on the sand is amazing...I am going to stay. That's going to be my goal. If it rains, I'm just going to run on the beach," said Kanetakis.
