UPDATED STORY: Missouri gunman was cousin to 2 slain couples, police say

TEXAS COUNTY, Mo. – Nine people are dead, including the gunman, after shootings in south-central Missouri, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Sgt. Jeff Kinder addressed the media at a news conference Friday morning at the Texas County Justice Center. Around 10:15p.m. Thursday night, the Texas County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance with a disturbance involving a weapon at a residence in Tyrone, Missouri.  A juvenile female caller said she was in the residence when she heard gun shots. The girl immediately fled to a neighbor’s house to call 911. Upon arrival, police found two people dead.

Further investigation revealed five more dead victims and another victim who was wounded in three additional homes. Officials say all three residences were located in Tyrone.

Police also found the body of an elderly woman who may have died from natural causes. The suspect is a 36-year-old man from Tyrone, who was found dead in a vehicle in Shannon County. He suffered from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The injured victim was taken to a nearby hospital.

The victim’s names have not been released as this is an ongoing  investigation. Police have not confirmed the relationship between the victims.
