SPRING VALLEY, Calif. — A 13-year-old student on the way to school Monday ran away from two men in a black van with blackened windows after an attempted abduction, authorities said.

The student was walking to La Presa Middle School about 8:50 a.m. when a van drove up at Orville and Maclay streets and the side door opened. Two white men in their 20s dressed in black tried to get the student into the van, said Sgt. Pat McEvoy of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The student ran and safely reached the school and the van drove east on Orville, McEvoy said.

The sex of the student was not made available.
