OCEANSIDE, Calif. – A body was found in a park in Oceanside Monday morning, detectives said.
The body was identified as 24-year old Mustafa Gordon.
Bill Stone was walking his dog Lucy when he found Gordon's body on the northeast side of the park.
"I was shocked. I was scared. They asked me if I touched him I said no I didn’t touch him," said Stone.
Oceanside police detectives said the victim blunt force trauma to his head.
"There’s been no weapon that’s been recovered," said Lt. Leonard Cosby. "An object of some kind was used, we don’t know what it was."
"He was a wonderful boy," said Suafa Turner.
Turner came to the park when she learned of Gordon's death. She called him a family friend.
"He never turned us down when we needed his help, like when we asked him to move something, he never told us no," said Turner.
She said Mustafa was a good Christian and someone, who served his country.
"I don't know why anybody would do such a thing, because he’s such a wonderful person," said Turner.
Investigators believe Gordon was targeted.
"What appears to me, the severity of the blunt force trauma would indicate to me he was known by the person that attacked him," said Lt. Cosby.
Gordon's truck was found parked a few feet away from where his body was discovered under a picnic table. Police said they are searching the vehicle and the park for any evidence that may lead to his killer.
"We don't know if it’s gang related, crime of passion, boyfriend girlfriend triangle, it could be anything right now," said Lt. Cosby.
"We don’t know what happened, who would do such a thing to him?" said Suafa through tears.
Authorities are asking the public for information about incident and asking them to call 760-435-4911.
“If anyone heard or saw something in the middle of the night to call us,” Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Cosby said. “Our officers will be canvasing the neighborhood, going to houses, talking to people and looking at surveillance video.”
No other information was immediately released.
