Elderly driver crashes through grocery store

SAN DIEGO -- An elderly driver crashed her SUV through the front door of a Kensington market Saturday, leaving herself and another person with minor injuries.

The woman had problems with her gas pedal leading her to crash her SUV into the glass doors at of the Simple Grocery store, on El Cajon Boulevard near 41st Street, shortly before 11:30 a.m., according to San Diego police and fire officials.

Certified nurse Melinda Franklin was a couple stores down on El Cajon Boulevard and rushed over when she heard the noise.

"It was a big bang …and then there was a last bang at the back of the store," said Franklin. "It looked like there was more than one vehicle involved.”

A cashier, who was the only person in the store, was cut by the broken glass, according to paramedics.

"He had a neck brace on and abrasions from the broken glass. He was holding his right arm because he got pushed into a wall," said Franklin.
