Man arrested after bundles of meth found in SUV

The methamphetamine was hidden under the rear seat of the SUV.(U.S. Border Patrol)

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. – A man who had more than 23 pounds of methamphetamine hidden under the rear seat of his SUV was arrested Thursday by U.S. Border Patrol agents.

The 25-year-old Mexican man, driving a 1994 white Jeep Cherokee, arrived at the Interstate 5 checkpoint at approximately 6:45 p.m., according to U.S. Border Patrol. After he was referred to a secondary inspection, a K-9 sniffed the vehicle and detected the drugs.

During their search of the vehicle, agents observed 10 cellophane-wrapped bundles of methamphetamine under the rear seat.

The drugs, which weighed just over 23 pounds, have an estimated street value of $236,000.

Agents arrested the man and turned him over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The vehicle was seized by U.S. Border Patrol.
