SAN DIEGO – Two pit bulls were found on an abandoned boat off the coast of San Diego Wednesday, lifeguards said.
San Diego lifeguards spotted the boat drifting off the La Jolla coast Wednesday around 11 a.m.. When they made it to the boat, lifeguards realized two pit bulls were locked up inside the cabin without any food or water.
The boat and dogs were towed to lifeguard headquarters at 2581 Quivira Court where San Diego County Animal Services Department took the animals and were assisting with their care.
“It’s irresponsible to leave two dogs cooped up in a boat cabin,” San Diego lifeguard Sgt. Bill Bender said. "If it had happened at night, who knows how long it would have been before those dogs got any attention."
Lifeguards said they know who owns of the boat, but were unable to reach them.
Although, investigators do not know how the boat was abandoned and near La Jolla, they believe high tide could have been a factor.
