SAN DIEGO - The Tuesday morning commute was slowed by dense fog produced from a shallow marine layer.

Fog will blanket coastal mesas and western valleys throughout the morning, but is expected to clear by 9:00 a.m., forecasters said

The National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory for San Diego and Orange County coastal areas. Visibility is less than a quarter mile. Drivers were urged to use caution and take extra time for the morning commute.

Low beam headlights should be used and drivers should leave plenty of distance between themselves and the car in front of them, the California Highway Patrol warned.
