Family injured by suspected drunken driver

SAN DIEGO – A woman and two children were transported to the hospital after a suspected drunken driver drove through an intersection and crashed into a minivan Sunday night, authorities said.

The driver of a black Hyundai exited Interstate 805 at S. 43rd Street and drove through a red light at 7:50 p.m., San Diego police said. 

A woman and her children were inside the minivan when it was hit by the car in the intersection, authorities said.  The family members were all transported in one ambulance.  A 5-year-old child was taken to Rady Children's Hospital to be treated for a minor head wound.   The mother suffered minor bruises and was treated at a nearby hospital. Her other 3-year-old was uninjured.

Witnesses told Fox 5, police required the driver to undergo a sobriety test at the scene. The driver, said to be 27-years-old, was later taken into custody.
