Derailed train blocks road in Miramar

SAN DIEGO – A train derailed in Miramar early Tuesday morning, blocking Distribution Avenue at Miramar Road.

The train was heading west across Distribution Avenue when one of its axles came off the track around 2:10 a.m. and damaged the concrete below, police said.

Officials won’t know the extent of the damage until the train is removed.

Crews suspended the clean-up effort until later Tuesday morning. wjem a crane and other heavy equipment will be brought in to remove the derailed train.

Drivers should avoid Distribution Avenue by taking Miramar Avenue to Carroll Road to get around the accident, police said.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
