SAN DIEGO — A canyon between SDSU’s parking lot C and Alvarado Road near the trolley was on fire just after 7:15pm Thursday evening. ┬áReports of a brush fire prompted San Diego Fire and Heartland Fire units to quickly respond to the area where several trees were reportedly on fire.

Firefighters had the fire knocked down just before 7:50pm Christmas Day.

Investigators point towards an illegal transient cooking fire as the cause of the blaze, which quickly climbed several palm trees in the vicinity.

Trolley service was largely unaffected.
