CORONADO, Calif. — County officials lifted the water contact closure at the Silver Strand State Beach Monday after tests confirmed sewage-fouled flows from the Tijuana River were no longer affecting the area.

The Silver Strand State Beach shore was added to an existing water contact closure earlier this month after rain-driven sewage contamination from the Tijuana River was detected, but water quality tests confirmed the flows are no longer above state health standards, according to the county Department of Environmental Heath.

However, the shoreline remains closed from the U.S.-Mexico border to the north end of Imperial Beach, which includes Border Field State Park and the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge, county officials said.
