SAN DIEGO – The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department brought smiles and some tears of joy to residents over the weekend by handing out thousands of dollars.

Three local businessmen donated $17,000 to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department with instructions to hand it out to people who are need of it this holiday season.

Deputies contacted schools, churches and resource centers to find who needed it most. They also gave it to people they normally see while they are out on patrol.

“You build a rapport with people you see on a daily and monthly basis, you’ve seen them struggle and go through hard times. To be able to assist them financially, it’s a great experience,” Deputy Ken Colburn said.

The deputies handed out between $100 and $500 to each person.

That wonderful lady shown could really use the help. Her name is Patricia from Encinitas. If anyone would like to donate to her, I’m sure the Encinitas PD could assist you.
