SANTEE, Calif. -- The gas station at the Santee Costco has turned into a very popular place.

It's offering some of the lowest gas prices in the county at $2.39 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. The low prices have become an incentive to travel by car this holiday season.

In California alone, more than 12 million people are expected to make a road trip. That's compared with more than 98 million nationwide.

Gas prices hit 4-year low

Leonore Dufour of Santee is one of them.

"It always makes it better when it's not as much, not as expensive to travel 'cause my family usually travels by car," said Dufour, who is heading for a weekend at Disneyland in Anaheim.

As for air travel, an estimated 2.5 million people will be flying the Friday before Christmas -- one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Overall, during the holiday season more than 45 million people will be traveling by plane.
