SAN DIEGO — A broken water main flooded a Point Loma intersection Friday and left surrounding homes and businesses without functional plumbing for hours, authorities said.

A construction crew accidentally ruptured the 8-inch-diameter concrete pipeline while digging at Canon Street and Anchorage Lane about 10:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Water Department.

It took city crews about an hour to halt the overflow, SDWD spokesman Arian Collins said. No structural flooding was reported.

Three adjacent blocks of the two roadways and one block of nearby Talbot Street were left without water service pending repairs, which were expected to take until about midnight to complete, Collins said.
