CHULA VISTA, Calif. — A pedestrian running across Telegraph Canyon Road against a red pedestrian signal was recuperating from critical injuries in a hospital Saturday.

The woman was hit at 2:33 p.m. in the 500 block of Telegraph Canyon Road, Chula Vista Police Capt. Lou Turner said. That location is just east of Interstate 805.

“Police received several 911 calls of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian,” Turner said. “Officers arrive on the scene and discovered that a woman had been struck by a single vehicle traveling westbound on Telegraph Canyon Road.”

Witnesses told police the woman had a “don’t walk” signal and the car’s driver had a green light. The driver stopped and was not cited.

The victim was taken to Mercy Trauma Center in critical condition with injuries to her pelvis, ribs and head.

The Chula Vista Police Traffic Division was investigating.
