EL CAJON, Calif. – “Unusual circumstances” have changed what first looked like a suicide into a homicide investigation at a home just north of El Cajon, deputies said Saturday.

Deputies and medics were sent to the house in the 8000 block of Rockview Drive near East Pepper Drive shortly before 4:30 p.m. Friday and found a man’s body, sheriff’s homicide Lt. John Maryon said.

His name was not released.

The death was at first said to have been a suicide, but Maryon said homicide detectives launched an investigation “due to some unusual circumstances.” He did not elaborate.

The county Medical Examiner’s Office would determine how the man died, Maryon said.

Maryon asked anyone with additional information to call the sheriff’s department at 858-974-2321 or 858-565-5200, or to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
