EL CAJON, Calif. -- An investigation was under way Tuesday in El Cajon, where a motorist drove off after hitting and seriously injuring a pedestrian, police said.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was wearing dark clothing when he crossed an unregulated intersection at Second Street and Sumner Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Monday, according to El Cajon police Lt. Greg Robertson. Paramedics took the man to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, authorities said.

The vehicle that was involved was a dark sedan, possibly a Toyota Corolla, that was traveling south on Second Street and kept going after the collision, Robertson said. The car likely has front-end damage, he said.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run was asked to call El Cajon police at 619-441-1632.
