SAN DIEGO — A woman fell off a cliff onto the rocks below near La Jolla Cove Monday morning.

The woman had apparently been drinking when she lost her footing and fell near the 1500 block of Coast Walk at around 6 a.m., San Diego police said.

Shane Aliyar didn’t see the woman fall, but he witnessed what happened afterwards.

“I was hanging out in my car with my girlfriend and a guy approached us in the car and said ‘My friend just fell of the cliff.’ We jumped out of the car, and we looked down there, and she was face down on the rocks,” Aliyar said.” She wasn’t fully conscious. She just kept moaning like she was in pain, a lot of pain. And she had a bunch of abrasions on her back. Her back looked bad. She was bleeding from her head. She was in bad shape.”

Rescue crews strapped the woman to a backboard and she was hoisted up by a helicopter. She was airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.

Hospital officials said the woman is expected to recover from her injuries.
