LEMON GROVE, Calif. — A shooting prompted by an argument in Lemon Grove left a man with a gunshot wound to his stomach, a sheriff’s sergeant said Saturday.

Deputies found the wounded man shortly before 8 p.m. Friday in the 7400 block of Daytona Street near West Street, sheriff’s Sgt. Luis Chavez said.

The victim initially claimed he had been wounded at that location, but later told deputies he had been shot following an argument with another man in the vicinity of Broadway and Federal Boulevard, Chavez said. Following the shooting, he drove to the Daytona Street address and asked a resident there to call for help, the sergeant said.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated, Chavez said. His condition was not immediately disclosed.

Chavez said sheriff’s detectives had launched an investigation into the shooting. A description of the assailant was not provided.

Sheriff’s officials asked anyone with additional information on the shooting to call 858-565-5200, or to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
