Crushed Taxi Cab

SAN DIEGO — A taxi driver was seriously injured when he crashed into a tree early Friday near San Ysidro.

The taxi veered off Interstate 5 just north of Dairy Mart Road at around 2:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The cab was so badly mangled when it hit the tree that it took rescue crews about 20 minutes to free the driver from the wreckage. They had to cut the roof off the car to get him out.

The man was taken to a local hospital, but there was no information available on his condition.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
