Fire rips through La Mesa apartment
LA MESA, Calif. – A fire heavily damaged an apartment building in La Mesa Monday afternoon, leaving at least four people displaced.
The fire broke out around noon in a second story apartment in a building on the 8500 block of Lemon Avenue and firefighters extinguished it in 20 minutes, according to Heartland Fire Department.
Firefighters were able to confine the blaze to a single second-floor unit in the two-story building. A ground-level apartment sustained significant water damage, Sonny Saghera, a spokesman for Heartland Fire Department.
No one was injured in the fire, two adults and two children needed emergency lodging.
The American Red Cross was called in to help the displaced residents arrange for housing.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
