CORONADO, Calif. -- Two San Diego motorcycle police officers collided while participating in a motorcade on Coronado's Silver Strand early Monday, sending both to the hospital, police said.

The crash on Silver Strand Boulevard, about two miles south of the Hotel del Coronado, occurred around 7:45 a.m., according to SDPD Officer Matt Tortorella.

Paramedics took both officers to UCSD Medical Center, he said. As of Monday evening, one of the officers was listed in serious condition.

At the time of the crash, the officers were escorting a motorcade for the Slovakian President Andrej Kiska, who is visiting San Diego for economic talks with local officials.

President Kiska also experienced an incident Sunday night at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort when he and other people became trapped inside a second floor elevator.  It took San Diego Fire-Rescue Department crews over an hour to rescue.

Shouldn’t the headline read “Andrej Kiska, the President of Slovakia is in town” and the two injuries would be a byline?

This wasnt a distraction. They are real people involved. Policers at that. You should be more concerned with them then some conspiracy theory.

Actually Joe, I was being facetious. But since we’re going there…

As a motorcycle officer, you’re trained to ride in formation and have to complete hours of safety course riding before you’re even allowed on the road. Whatever happened, it’s their fault for either not following procedure or not using enough preventative riding techniques to avoid the collision. As a fellow motorcyclist, yeah it sucks to see another rider go down. But if you ride like an asshat, you deserve the road rash. If they’re found at fault, I hope their superiors strip them of their bike privileges and tosses them in a cager where they belong.

I feel bad for both motor officers. But I find it ironic that that country’s president goes to Coronado to discuss economic matters. Simple for Coronado, they have a smart enough government that they don’t allow people to say they need low income housing or 500 unit apartment complexes that are section 8 and bring in the hoodlums. Coronado is a place for wealthy people to live and they keep the riff raff out. It’s pretty nice when theyre police departments big case is “help, I’ve fallen and can’t get up” or the drunk driver thats passing
    through town.
