San Marcos Power Line Crash

SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Rescuers had to wait for utility crews to turn off the electricity early Monday before they could help a driver who was trapped in a wrecked pickup covered with downed power lines.

The victim crashed into a power pole at Rancho Santa Fe Road and 8th Street in San Marcos at about 2:15 a.m., San Marcos fire officials said.

The truck flipped on its side and was electrified by the downed power lines.

Once power was cut to the lines, firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the driver from the wreck.

His injuries were not serious and he was expected to make a full recovery, fire officials said.
