ALPINE, Calif. – San Diego Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man who approached a little girl in Alpine and gestured for her to come over to his car.

The girl told deputies she was walking home from the Alpine Youth Center on Friday around 4 p.m. when a gray car pulled up alongside her in the 2000 block of Arnold Way.

She said the driver, a white man in his 40s with brown hair and tattoos on his arms, asked where her mom was.

According to investigators, the girl got scared and ran to a nearby apartment complex with her younger brother, who was walking a few feet behind her. They hid near a laundry room until a woman who lives in the complex found them.

Moments later, the man drove back around to the woman and children. When the woman confronted the driver, he started swearing at her and drove away, deputies said.

The man was wearing a San Francisco 49ers baseball cap at the time of the incident.

If you recognize the man or have information about this incident, call Detective Dan Barns at 619-659-2612, Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477, or the Sheriff’s Department at 858-565-5200.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for anyone who provides information leading to an arrest.
