Young man accused bringing hatchet on campus arrested

EL CAJON, Calif. – The man accused of carrying a hatchet on school ground in El Cajon Wednesday was arrested, police said Thursday.

A young man reported ran through a neighborhood near Fletcher Hills Elementary School at 2 p.m. with a bladed weapon prompting a brief lockdown of the school Wednesday, according to El Cajon police.

Officers searched the area surrounding the school, but did not find the suspect.

Christopher Joseph Wilson, 19, went to the El Cajon Police Department and voluntarily surrendered himself to police Thursday at 11:50 a.m., police said.

Wilson was arrested and faces charges of having a weapon on school property and making criminal threats.
