Closures scheduled this week on I-805, I-8

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — Overnight freeway closures will affect Interstate 805 in the South Bay and a connector from Interstate 8 to Interstate 5 this week Caltrans announced Monday.

I-805 will be temporarily closed overnight between East Orange Avenue and Telegraph Canyon Road to accommodate the removal of temporary supports for bridge construction at East Palomar Street between Sept. 2 and Sept. 15.

All southbound I-805 lanes will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sept. 2,4,7,8 and 9. Northbound lanes will remain open.

All northbound I-805 lanes will be closed between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. on Sept. 3,10,11,14 and 15. Southbound lanes will remain open.

Commuters are urged to avoid the area or take alternative routes. Traffic will be diverted via Telegraph Canyon Road, Medical Center Drive, Brandywine Avenue and Olympic Parkway. Trucks can detour away from local neighborhoods by taking Interstate 5.

Crews will also close the connector ramp from westbound I-8 to northbound I-5 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Sept. 2 and Sept 4 for striping and the placement of concrete krails.  Two lanes of northbound I-5 from I-8 to Sea World Driver will also be closed for paving.

Traffic from I-8 to northbound I-5 will be detoured during the work.
