SAN DIEGO — A drunken 25-year-old man was struck by a vehicle near Qualcomm Stadium and was hospitalized with serious injuries, a police officer said Friday.

The pedestrian was walking across the 9200 block of Friars Road near Fenton Parkway shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday when he was hit by the vehicle, which was heading west at about 40 miles per hour, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for major head trauma, Heims said.

Police officials said the driver was not cited in connection with the accident.
